The owners and management of Hawaii Island Hardwoods LLC (HIH) recognize that there are limitations to the availability of processing wood in Hawaii. The strategy of the company and the design of the new facilities is being adapted to be able to offer timber owners and craftsmen the opportunity to access superior yields and recoveries of lumber from logs that could not otherwise be processed without significant capital expenditure.

HIH currently offers a custom cutting program for logs that do not exceed 30” in diameter or 16’ in length. The mill is limited to these sizes due to the utilization of Wood Mizer LT 40 equipment.

In the future the mill will be able to handle up to 36” diameter logs on the new vertical band mill and carriage. At that time the Wood Mizer will be converted to a 20’ long device but it will then be limited to 20” diameter due to weight of log limitations.

We will have a custom cutting rate by volume or a custom cutting rate by the hour. If a client wishes to direct the cutting on site then the hourly rate will apply.

When the lumber sorting system and dry kilns are in place the company will be offering a custom drying program. We anticipate that this will be available by early 2008.
